Meet famous African American artist Alma Thomas who overcame barriers to become one of the country's most celebrated modern painters known for her colorful creations. Then make your own painting inspired by her vibrant work. Earn 1 hour of community service by lending your art for exhibition in The Underground.

(Note: In this class, we'll learn about Alma Thomas, who's painting famously became the first artwork by an African American woman to enter the White House's collection. Students will then create their own paintings using watercolor sets and watercolor paper.)
