Fire Island. The name conjures up miles of silky white sand beaches, vibrant beach villages, an eye-catching array of vegetation, and an iconic lighthouse standing above it all. But did you ever wonder where it all came from? Join us as we go back 20,000 years to a time when ice covered the earth and humans had not yet arrived in America as we explore the birth and development of this oceanside paradise. You will gain an appreciation of the geologic processes that formed the island, the ecological processes that populated it, and some of the key issues that face Fire Island now and in the future.
