Event Details

This is an in-person event and will take place at the library.

Join us from 5:30-6:00pm for the opening of Michael Chinnici’s photography exhibit in the library, followed by his author talk where he will be discussing his new visual storytelling book, Vanishing Cuba.

This exhibit will be on display through August 25.

Michael has been a Cold Spring Harbor / Lloyd Neck resident for over 30 years. Vanishing Cuba came to life as a result of his first 24 photography trips to Cuba. In just four months, it has been acquired by prestigious Universities and Photographic Societies across the globe, including The Getty Center, Stanford, Columbia, NYU Abu Dhabi, the University of Cambridge, Vanderbilt, University of Michigan, Florida University, and more. Vanishing Cuba is about capturing Cuba’s past, present, and future, and even more so, about capturing the “Soul of Cuba.” This large-format coffee table book contains a stunning collection of over 300 photographs and stories depicting present-day life in Cuba and the changes Cuba is facing as it emerges from more than 60 years of isolation and decay. Michael’s trips to Cuba have yielded tens of thousands of photographs, thought-provoking and emotional stories, and created lifelong friendships. Michael’s love affair with Cuba and the Cuban people comes through in this compelling and beautifully produced book. Michael will talk about how he connects with the people and culture of Cuba as a photographer and writer and his fascinating nine-year journey leading up to the creation and publication of this masterful and beautiful book.
